Mubas graduates urged to drive innovation
Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (Mubas) has challenged graduates to embrace innovation and use the skills they have acquired to contribute towards the country’s development.
Speaking during the university’s graduation ceremony held at its main campus in Blantyre on Tuesday, Mubas Vice Chancellor Associate Professor Nancy Chitera urged the 1 353 graduates not to view their graduation as the end of their academic journey, but rather as the beginning of their responsibility to create solutions to challenges facing the nation.

She said Mubas is advancing a mindset change among students by promoting innovation and job creation.
“The graduates have been well equipped with the knowledge that they need, they have been well equipped with critical skills and critical thinking so that they should be able to solve the challenges affecting the nation,” said Chitera.
Out of the 1 353 graduating students, 13 graduated with distinctions, six of whom were females.
Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Principal Secretary Ken Ndala who was the guest of honour, commended universities for equipping Malawians with skills and knowledge needed in various sectors.
“Our expectation is that these graduates will help to develop this country from various fields. We expect them to link what they acquired in their classrooms and the challenges that the country is facing to come up with solutions,” said Ndala.
Lisa M’meta, who graduated with a Master’s in Business Administration and Sphiwe Jonathan who graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce (Banking and Finance) said they are prepared to apply their knowledge in their respective fields.
The graduation ceremony was Mubas’ third congregation since the delinking of public universities in 2021.
